Held in Seoul for the First Time: JEC Asia 2017

 

JEC ASIA MOVED TO SEOUL AFTER BEING HELD 9 YEARS IN SINGAPORE

ULTIMATE BUSINESS PLATFORM FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITES INDUSTRIES IN ASIA PACIFIC MARKET

200 COMPANIES, 5,000 COMPANIES INVOLVED, FEATURING RENOWNED EXPERTS

 

More than 5,000 international experts and company representatives from the composite industry, also known as a promising next generation industry, came to Seoul.

 

A representative of Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that JEC Asia Seoul 2017, hosted by the world’s largest composite materials group – JEC Group – at COEX, Seoul for three days from November 1 to 3.

JEC Group is headquartered in Paris and is the top global composite organization with a network of 250,000 professionals from 100 countries. This annual event used to be held in Singapore for the last 9 years, and it is the first time to change locations to Seoul as of this year. The Seoul Metropolitan Government and JEC Group signed a business agreement (MoU) last February for the successful hosting of the event.

 

In this year, more than 5,000 experts and corporate experts from 200 countries visited the exhibition. Throughout the event, diverse programs such as exhibitions, conferences, International Carbon Festival, JEC Innovation Award Ceremony were held.

 

This exhibition focused on the end-user market (top buyers) including automotive, aeronautics, renewable energy building and construction, electrical and electric equipment, sports and leisure, and shipping industries. Some of the participants from these industries included major global composite corporations such as CHOMARAT, ARKEMA, M Torres, SAERTEX, Solvay, CGTECH, HEXCEL, Hyosung, Toray group, Hanwha Advanced Materials, Hankook Carbon, Kolon and several major composite research centers including KCTECH, DYETEC, Gyongbuk Hybrid Technology Institute, Hanyang University, KAIST, Seoul National University, and UNIST.

 

The JEC Asia Conference, held for three days held together with the exhibition, invited world-renowned speakers to discuss the current status and the potential of the composites industry. The conference highlighted the latest applications of composite materials in the fields of automotive, IT, electrical and electronic appliances and aerospace. On November 1, the 12th International Carbon Festival (ICF) was also held by the Korea Institute of Carbon Convergence Technology (KICCT).

 

Furthermore, on November 2nd there was ‘JEC Asia Innovation Awards’ ceremony to award companies that have presented the most innovative products and services. A total of 12 companies from 12 major fields – automotive, construction, marine, racing cars, railroads, transportation, wind energy, sports & leisure and more – were awarded. For Korea, ‘the ultra-high performing cement-composite railroad sleeper’ by Korea Railroad Research Institute was awarded from the field of railroads, and ‘the Industry 4.0 Robot Braiding Plant’ by T4L (Textile for Life) was awarded from the field of processing.

 

President Mutel Frédérique said “It is very exciting to hold JEC Asia in Seoul, and we are ready to welcome many composite industry professionals thanks to the close cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government”. She added “Through this session, I believe that Korea, which is growing rapidly in the global composite industry, will become a predominant international hub in Asia Pacific for composites. Based on the outcomes of this session, we have already decided to double the surface of the event on one unique floor to be able to accommodate more exhibitors and innovative parts in 2018”.

“Seoul is an ideal city to host JEC Asia with success due to its tremendous potential in the development of composites, and its reputation as 3rd ranked MICE city in the world to hold the most international conferences” said Ahn Joon-ho, director of Tourism and Sports of the Seoul Metropolitan City. He added “We hope to host JEC Asia at least 10 years from now and the Seoul Metropolitan Government will give its full support to make JEC Asia a top global exhibition.
