Buyers award STO the grand prize for ‘Excellent Meeting’ for the second straight year

The Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) attended the 2018 Korea MICE Expo (KME) and promoted Seoul’s charm to the world as a destination city for MICE events. KME is Korea’s largest MICE industry exhibition and is held every year. KME was held over a period of two days on June 14 and 15 at the Songdo Convensia in Incheon under the theme of “Hallyu meets MICE.” Approximately 2,000 MICE industry professionals from all over the world were in attendance, including 300 buyers and 300 sellers.

STO operated a joint promotional booth along with 51 members of the Seoul MICE Alliance (SMA). STO and the members carried out MICE business consultations with buyers and enthusiastically introduced Seoul MICE’s support programs and various MICE infrastructures. The buyers expressed their admiration for Seoul’s exceptional charm as they looked at promotional videos and pamphlets, taking special notice of Seoul’s different support programs such as the PLUS SEOUL Package, which combines the benefits of Seoul MICE’s support programs and SMA member companies. Buyers were drawn to Seoul’s promotional booth due to the unique events that were being held such as taking Instagram photos with a wax figure of Hallyu star Psy, making traditional knotted bracelets, and receiving free ice cream.

For the second straight year, the buyers at KME awarded STO with the grand prize in the “Excellent Meeting” category. The meticulous service that was offered to the buyers played a huge role in bringing about such an accomplishment. In addition to the kind and detailed business consultations that were given to the buyers at the Seoul promotional booth, snacks and drinks were provided and a buyers’ lounge was operated throughout the day for the convenience of guests. Buyers also had words of praise for the kind services of the Seoul MICE Supporters, all of whom were fluent in a foreign language.

While KME was in session, STO held a meeting for SMA’s branch representatives and a discussion session for staff members. The meetings created opportunities to examine SMA’s operation regulations and to share international MICE trends and the schedule for the latter half of the year. According to a source from STO, “KME gave us an opportunity to simultaneously promote Seoul MICE’s support programs and to enhance business connections between SMA member companies.”

Meanwhile, the first day of KME featured an opening ceremony at which idol group SHINee was appointed as the honorary ambassadors of Korea’s MICE industry and a keynote speech by Director Ahn Suwook of SM Entertainment. After business consultations had wrapped up on the same day, a festive atmosphere was created at a networking party where international buyers were introduced to regional products in Korea. On the 15th (Fri.) and 17th (Sun.), a FAM tour for members of the international media and a FAM tour for buyers were held in Seoul. The Seoul tours offered the participants a chance to visit unique venues and hotels that are SMA members. The participants got a firsthand experience of Seoul’s incredible charm as they visited locations such as Seoul Dragon City, Coex Convention and Exhibition Center, Floating Island Convention, SIGNIEL Seoul, and SMTOWN@coexartium.
