Rave reviews from overseas journalists and buyers who attended KME 2018

The successful promotion of new hotels and unique venues, as well as the PLUS SEOUL Package

The Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) promoted Seoul’s appeal as a tourism and MICE destination via FAM tours that were held for international members of the media and overseas buyers. At the FAM tours that were held in connection with the 2018 Korea MICE EXPO (KME), Seoul was able to give a thorough introduction of the city’s tourism infrastructure and support programs.

A total of 14 reporters for MICE media outlets that had attended KME were given the opportunity to tour different locations in Seoul on June 15 (Fri.). The tour participants were able to explore one MICE infrastructure after another as they visited some of Seoul’s main convention centers, hotels, and unique venues such as K-Style Hub, Korea House, Coex Convention and Exhibition Center (Coex), SMT SEOUL, Seoul Dragon City, and Some Sevit. The participants, who came mostly from modern metropolises such as New York, London, and Singapore, expressed their surprise at Seoul’s balance of traditional and modern elements, as well as its harmony between man-made and natural structures.

On June 17th (Sun.), a total of 34 buyers from countries such as Russia, China, and Indonesia visited Seoul’s new MICE infrastructure. The buyers explored Lotte Tower’s SKY31 CONVENTION and SIGNIEL Seoul – locations that are becoming increasingly popular as MICE destinations for the amazing views they offer and for their convenient transportation. The participants also showed a great deal of interest in SMTOWN@coexartium, a location that is connected to Coex. The newly remodeled SMTOWN@coexartium is a “museum for artists” that features the success stories of Hallyu stars that are signed with SM Entertainment. The buyers seemed to be particularly interested in the many foreign tourists that were visiting the site, which also runs an exhibition center, cafe, and a gift shop.ㅤㅤ

The city of Seoul gave presentations on Seoul’s MICE industry at luncheons for both the media FAM tour and the buyer FAM tour. During the luncheons, presenters delivered information about Seoul’s current status as a MICE destination, the city’s support programs, and recent distinctions awarded to Seoul’s MICE industry. For the third straight year, Seoul has been chosen as the No. 3 international meeting city by the Union of International Associations, and for the second straight year, it has come in 10th on a list published by the International Congress and Convention Association of the world’s top cities for international meetings.

Seoul also focused on the 2018 PLUS SEOUL Package during the presentations. As a package that combines the benefits of Seoul MICE’s support programs with those offered by the members of the Seoul MICE Alliance (SMA), the PLUS SEOUL Package offers △ funding for MICE events △ support services for the bidding and holding of events △ special experiential courses for 2018 △ special discounts from 36 SMA members companies, and more. Buyers also showed a great deal of interest in support programs that target corporate and incentive tours (Seoullo 7017 walking tour, Han River cycling tour, Seoul Fortress Wall trekking program, Hallyu and traditional culture experience programs, etc.), new tourist attractions and unique venues, ONE MORE TRIP, and the Discover Seoul

The journalists and buyers who participated in the Seoul FAM tours expressed a high level of satisfaction in their experiences. Jonathan Tjhin Kuan Tju from the Indonesian travel agency Astrindo Travel Service commented, “I was satisfied with Seoul’s high standards regarding hospitality and with everything that was on our schedule. I’ve been a fan of BoA’s for a long time, so I was happy that we were able to take a commemorative photo at SMTOWN@coexartium. I also enjoyed the various experiences that I was able to have.” He added, “As SIGNIEL Seoul is a hotel that offers an outstanding view and convenient transportation, I would like to recommend it not only as a MICE venue but also for families who are visiting Korea. The next time I come to Korea, I would like to visit an exhibition center for Korean ceramics.”
